With your human intelligence it is easy for you to notice a word that you do not know the meaning of, look it up in a dictionary and find the definition that applies to the material that you are reading. There are a number of steps that you automatically perform in order to do this “simple” process.
The study of these steps is the field of language technology, linguistic engineering, natural language processing and computational linguistics. At Semantix our linguistic experts have studied and documented these steps. Once documented, our software developers were able to transform these steps to into simple instructions that a computer can perform. The Result is Dixio, the first SMART Dictionary!
By means of language detection, morpho-syntactical analysis and the analysis of context the word you are looking up is examined and prepared for subsequent treatment.
Once you click on a word, Dixo is launched and it goes through the process of determining what language the word is written in , what type of word ( noun, verb, etc) it is, in what field (science, economics, medical) is it being used in and/or is it being used in an idiom.
All this is done through the use of fuzzy searches (approximate searches), semantic searches, context searches and multi-lingual searches. Dixio content is reviewed and, taking into account user preferences, the best possible definition is presented to the user with the original term. Dixio is able to do this by identifying, among other things, words that are inflections of others – verb forms, plurals, different gender, etc. spelling errors, compound words, as well as those including punctuation marks.
Dixo comes with over 90 dictionaries and glossaries for normal language usage. But, in many cases, there are very specialized glossaries organizations have compiled to define words specific to their product, service, philosophy etc. In other words you can have your own word definitions in the Dixo system , making them accessible to your readers at the click of a mouse!
Manufacturers, developers and systems integrators can integrate the Dixio engine into their own application through the use of our API which we call our Content Knowledge Engine or CKE . The CKE provides all the backend power of Dixio to e-Readers, Smartphones, mobile phone apps , net-books…practically any device that can access the web.
