A PIM system is, of course, an incredibly useful product information management tool for businesses. But SEO – influencing where your texts end up in Google’s rankings – is also extremely important.

No matter how much you manage to automate, you still need to put effort into improving the visibility of your texts in Google’s search results. And the problem is that this isn’t just a one-off process. Search engine optimisation (or SEO) involves carrying out ongoing maintenance work on your texts to keep boosting the number of visitors to your website.

What do I do?

Ask your company’s website manager to go through your product designations and texts and recommend which designations and words are searched for via Google, i.e. the optimised search terms. You now have a glossary of search terms that work in Google. Update all the designations in your PIM system in line with this. Your product texts are now search engine optimised.

Is the list of search terms complete?

If you want to be absolutely certain that all the words used in your company’s terminology are included in the SEO glossary, ask the product and service managers to check that the glossary is complete by going through the company’s services and designations and comparing these with the SEO glossary. If it is incomplete, add the new designations and ask the company’s SEO manager to verify the terms with Google Analytics. Once this process is complete, you will have a complete SEO glossary in the original language.

Translating the SEO glossary

Add all the company’s SEO terms to an Excel spreadsheet, and insert a column for each language. Your SEO glossary is now ready for translation.

SEO and language versions

The translated SEO terms will not necessarily be optimal, in other words they might not work correctly with Google Analytics. It is therefore important that you ask the SEO manager at your company to check all translated search terms (SEO terms) with Google Analytics.

When the PIM texts are translated

When the PIM texts are translated, you will save a great deal of time if you provide us with an SEO-validated list for all languages. The translated texts will then be search engine optimised right from the outset, and the language versions in the PIM system will start generating traffic from Google straight away when shown in the front-end system.
