Translation & quality assurance

For translations, the following must be checked and ensured by the Supplier prior to delivery to Semantix:

  1. that the full meaning of the source text has been reproduced, with semantic accuracy of the target language content;
  2. that the syntax, spelling, punctuation and figures are correct;
  3. that the terminology is consistent and follows the specific domain and customer terminology and/or other reference material provided;
  4. that the translation is idiomatically correct;
  5. that any required target group adaptation has been carried out;
  6. that any reference material and customer style guide provided have been used, and target audience has been considered;
  7. that the Assignment has been delivered in accordance with the Purchase Order and other Assignment instructions.

If the translation tool used features a QA check, this check must be carried out.

Apply the writing standard that is the norm for your language and any specific client style guides or terminology.

Make sure that the terminology used is consistent and in line with the translation memory/termbase or any other associated reference material.

Make sure that the style is appropriate for the target audience.

Always use an electronic spell checker.

Make sure that programming code and formatting information (tags) remain intact.

Before delivery to Semantix, please revise your entire translation against the source text with regard to completeness and correctness.

Never add comments, questions or highlights in the translation file(s). If you need to attach comments etc., please send them via e-mail to the project manager.

Before delivery, a Quality Assurance (QA check) must be performed. This QA can be carried out directly in the CAT tool you use or in an independent tool such as Xbench.

The QA check must include:

  • Forgotten or empty translations, untranslated segments
  • Numbers (including dates)
  • Double blanks
  • Repeated words
  • Tags
  • Inconsistency in target (different translations for identical source segments)
  • Inconsistency in source (identical translations for different source segments)
  • Unedited fuzzy matches

Translation & third-party revision

Some translation projects include revision by another linguist. You are asked to review their comments, incorporating any corrections throughout, and deciding which suggestions to implement with respect to the best possible quality. Your updated version is sent to the customer.
